Gardener: frequently asked questions
A gardener maintains the garden and outdoor areas: pruning, irrigation, lawn, pool and seasonal plant care. In Andalusia the work tends to run in full days and changes a lot between winter and summer. It may be an employment contract or a day rate, and work with machinery requires risk-prevention compliance.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a gardener in Andalusia?
Registration is free and you only pay when unlocking contact details: Basic €35 (3 profiles), Active search €59 (7) and Professional €108 (15), VAT included, paid once by card. There is no subscription and unlocked profiles stay available for 30 days. The price does not include wages or gardening materials.
What does a gardener earn per month or per day?
For continuous dedication the indicative range in Andalusia is €1,200 to €1,800 gross per month, always above the SMI of €1,221 across 14 payments in 2026. When the service is paid by the day, the figure is agreed for a full day, not for loose hours. The platform fee is separate.
What does a gardener's job include?
Garden and outdoor upkeep: pruning, irrigation, lawn, pool and seasonal plant care. Decide in writing what is weekly and what is seasonal, because pruning, irrigation and the pool are not distributed the same way in winter and summer. Garden design and irrigation installation are a different service.
Employment contract or day rate?
It may be an employment contract or a day rate; work with machinery requires risk-prevention compliance. If the garden needs a fixed day every week plus an extra visit in spring, the contract is the usual route. Administration of the contract and Social Security registration is included in the plan.
Can I hire a gardener with no experience?
We impose no minimum number of years, but experience with Mediterranean gardens and basic machinery is required: each profile states it and references confirm it. The 20-question professional test scores from 0 to 100 and helps compare profiles. Height pruning or heavy machinery calls for specific experience.
Does the gardener need to speak Spanish?
Every profile lists its languages and the catalogue can be filtered by them. Understanding what gets pruned, what gets watered and when takes conversational Spanish, especially if there is household staff or neighbours to coordinate with. If the household runs in another language, check it in the interview.
How do you verify the gardener's documents?
Before publishing we check ID or passport, background and references from previous employers. Each candidate records a video presentation of up to 2 minutes and takes the 20-question professional test — 10 on experience, 10 on psychological profile. Contact details are opened with the plan you buy.
Can the gardener live in the house?
Rarely: gardens are almost always attended by the day. If a live-in arrangement is agreed, the household must provide a room, meals and at least 10 hours of uninterrupted night rest. In most cases a fixed day a week plus extra visits in spring is enough.
How long does it take to find a gardener?
We set no deadline in days: the catalogue opens when payment is confirmed and new profiles are published after verification. Access lasts 30 days, enough to compare profiles and ask for references. In villa and urbanisation areas — Mijas, Marbella, Estepona — more gardeners are available than inland.
What if the gardener is not the right fit?
You can open another profile within the same plan — 3, 7 or 15 unlocks depending on what you bought — without paying again. If the mismatch is about criteria (how much to prune, automatic irrigation, the pool), the most useful step is to spend the first day with the gardener and leave the instructions in writing. The payment is one-off, with no automatic renewal.
