An hourly cleaner is not a housekeeper
A cleaner handles the cleaning only; a housekeeper covers the full range of household work (cleaning, laundry, ironing, cooking and general order). They are different services: for a few hours a week hourly cleaning is usually the right choice; if you need the full household service, see elderly care and nannies too.
Pay and hiring
Part-time work is common in hourly cleaning. The legal floor is the SMI (€1,184 gross per month across 14 payments in 2026; €8.87 per hour as the part-time reference, prorated to weekly hours) and legal employment means a contract and Social Security registration.
